Crucial stretch begins now for Mets
Aside from two upcoming games against the Cardinals, who have played otherworldly baseball since their acquisition of Matt Holliday, the Mets will spend the first half of August exclusively battling teams with losing records.
If all goes according to plan, this upcoming stretch of games against the D-backs, Cardinals and Padres could be the last they have to play without the bulk of their injured players. Carlos Beltran, J.J. Putz and Billy Wagner are all gunning for a mid-August return; Jose Reyes remains an enigma, but he could be back in that time frame as well.
