Wright Remains as the Third Best Third Basemen of 2010
There are no newcomers to the top five third basemen list. Although everyone is the same, four out of the five players moved in the standings. Read on to see who the new number one is!
3. David Wright, New York Mets: Wright is the only player on the list to remain in the same spot since early June. Wright’s consistent offense this season is helping the Mets stay in the hunt for October. Wright is hitting .305, with 17 home runs and 77 RBI’s. Wright’s numbers have pretty much stayed at the same pace since early June, his average only dropped two points and he added five more home runs and 27 more RBI’s. Wright already surpassed his abysmal numbers from last season when he only hit 10 home runs and 72 RBI’s. Saying all of that the Mets are only one game above .500 this season and are tied for third place in the division six and a half games behind the first place Braves. With the trade deadline passing two days ago, the Mets didn’t make even one move! Wright is having a great year, but he cant do it alone. The Mets just gave up on their season by not making any moves to improve a mediocre team. If they do somehow make the playoffs, the Mets will have to pull off another miracle.

David Wright Makes #3 of the Best Third Baseman of 2010
Three out of the five third baseman on this list are having comeback years. One of the players career looked like it was over, one of them hasn’t had a good year since he was in the National League, and the last comeback player had a power outage last year.
3. David Wright, New York Mets: Wright has his groove back! After a disapointing season last year for him and his team Wright has found his way once again and is helping the Mets make a run at the first place Braves. Wright only belted 10 home runs last year and 72 RBI’s, but he still hit .307, which isn’t bad. The Mets expect Wright to be their power bat in the lineup though, which is why last year was a down year for Wright. Not to worry, Wright is leading the National League in home runs with 50 and has two more home runs than last year already, with 12. Wright has helped the Mets move to within a half a game behind the first place Braves. Wright is leading his team with average, RBI’s, home runs, on base percentage, slugging, and runs. If the Mets took Wright out of their lineup they would probably only be a .500 team this year.

Mike Pelfrey Makes #3 Suprise Starting Pitchers of 2010
There have been many suprisingly good starts by pitchers in 2010 that haven’t had good seasons the past few years. Is it a fluke, or are these pitchers for real this season?
3. Mike Pelfrey: Pelfrey is going nuts this season! Move over Johan Santana, Pelfrey is the new ace of the Mets this season. Pelfrey is 8-1 with a 2.39 ERA. Over the last two years Pelfrey has been known as an alright pitcher hovering around the .500 mark with wins and losses. This season has been a totally different story, no one expected Pelfrey to emerge as the teams ace. If it wasn’t for Pelfrey pitching the way he is the Mets would be way out of the division race.

Maine is first real test for Mets’ iffy rotation
The Mets got exactly what they expected out of Johan Santana in their season-opening win over the Marlins on Monday.
Now comes the hard part: Seeing what the other four-fifths of the starting rotation will give them.
And that starts tonight, when John Maine takes the mound against Florida at Citi Field after yesterday’s off day.
“You always want to get the year started off strong,” Maine said. “It’s the same thing every season. Your first couple of starts, you’re anxious and you want to get off on the right foot. No matter what you’ve been through to get there, that doesn’t change.”

Yankees fans… “No Bay, Okay!”
Jason Bay, the newly introduced New York Met has all New Yorkers excited for different reasons. On paper his departure from Boston is a win for both ball clubs, although as it typically turns out for the Met’s, Bay will most likely under perform, have a significant drop in numbers, and or will be injured and forced to retire. Conversely Yankees fans can now breathe a sigh of relief knowing they no longer have to deal with an over-achiever wearing the red pinstripes.

Wally Backman’s hiring with Cyclones may manage to motivate New York Mets manager Jerry Manuel
I believe Wally Backman will end up managing at Citi Field eventually, and when it happens it will be a very good day for the Mets. But for the moment he is no more a threat to Jerry Manuel’s job than Jay Horwitz, PR man to the stars.
There is some history between Backman and Manuel that dates back to their days together in the White Sox organization a decade ago, and it seems fairly clear they weren’t trusting allies. Depending on who you talk to, it was either because Manuel saw Backman, then an acclaimed minor-league manager, as a threat to his job, or their personalities merely clashed.
Either way it’s irrelevant, at least for now.
The Mets did the right thing in bringing Backman back to the organization after all these years, giving him a chance to make everyone forget the off-field indiscretions that got him fired as Diamondbacks manager before he ever signed the contract.

Red Sox send two to seal Wagner deal
The Mets have acquired minor leaguers Chris Carter and Eddie Lora from Boston, completing an earlier trade that sent reliever Billy Wagner to the Red Sox.
New York traded Wagner to Boston on Aug. 25 for two players to be named.
Carter batted .294 with 16 home runs and 61 RBIs in 116 games with Triple-A Pawtucket this season. The 26-year-old outfielder was added to the Mets’ 40-man roster Wednesday.
Carter was hitless in five at-bats for the Red Sox in April. He is a .306 career hitter with 126 homers in 726 minor league games.

Jose Reyes and Mets Ticket Prices Going Under the Knife
The Mets may finally be getting the hang of this public relations thing. The team announced Thursday that the average season ticket for 2010 would cost 10 percent less than it did this season, with cuts of as much as 20 percent in some locations. According to the team, every season ticket holder will wind up with a lower invoice than they had this year, although per-game ticket prices will remain the same in some instances.
The Mets say that the decision was made in deference to the economy, which is a lot easier than saying that we’re charging you less because of how awful we were this season. The economic realities of 2009 were certainly a consideration, but someone in the Mets realized that they’ve got a pretty ticked off fanbase these days and keeping them in the building was going to take more than the promise that things would better next year when all the players were healthy.
That was true even before the news that Jose Reyes tore his hamstring became public knowledge, but was twice as true when the ticket pricing announcement was actually made. One of the linchpins that the Mets could use as a selling point for a brighter tomorrow is now a gigantic question mark as the offseason gets underway, raising the possibility that the Mets could be looking for help at shortstop in addition to all of the other holes that need filling around the league.

Feliciano again proves a rock for Mets
In a season where so much has gone consistently wrong for the Mets, reliever Pedro Feliciano is one of the few things that has gone consistently right.
Feliciano exited Tuesday’s game leading the Majors in appearances with 86 after striking out Adam Dunn — the only batter he faced — in the eighth. He had been tied with Peter Moylan of the Braves in that category and now is tied for the team record with four games to go.
In fact, Feliciano is very familiar with that record — because he set it last year. But Feliciano has been solid again this season. The left-hander has a 6-4 record with a 3.09 ERA heading into Tuesday’s game.
“My arm feels good,” Feliciano said. “The more I pitch, the looser my arm gets. I think the more I pitch, the better I feel.”
